Our NEW High School Level Curriculum has been tested and is now available for you to use in your own classroom or program. It can be taught virtually or in-person or a combo. Each session includes a PowerPoint with links and teaching notes and student worksheets. Below is a description of each 45 minute session.
Session 1: What is an entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial mindset
Students will learn what is an entrepreneur including what types of characteristics are important for an entrepreneur, the mindset that is important and the benefits entrepreneurs provide for our economy and communities.
Session 2: Choosing a Business Idea
Students will assess their interests and talents for possible business ideas. They will look at how they can add value with their business ideas and narrow it down to one idea to work on during the course.
Session 3 and 4: The Biz Ops Game (90 minutes)
Students will learn business operations the fun way through the Biz Ops Game. Each student will be a solopreneur running a paper helicopter business. The students will start with a loan from the bank, purchase raw materials and office supplies, making their own paper helicopters, selling them to the customer, tracking sales, expenses, and profit/loss.
Session 5: Choosing a Business name
Students will learn different options for naming their business and how to test and see if their business name is a good one. They will test out their top name ideas with the other students and choose one to use with their business.
Session 6: Financials for Start-ups
Students will learn basic financial definitions along with coming up with the items and costs they need to start and run their business. They will then research competition and customers to create a price for their product or service and calculate their profit.
Session 7: Branding
Students will learn what branding is and how to create a brand for their business idea. They will work on creating their own brand and brainstorm logo ideas for their business.
Session 8: Marketing
Students will work on identifying their ideal customer, their competitors and work on a promotional plan for their business idea.
Session 9: Sales
Students will learn what skills are needed for selling products and services and their business idea. They will learn what an elevator pitch is and work on creating an elevator pitch for their business.
Session 10: Business Model Canvas
Students will learn what the Business Model Canvas is, use it in a case study and start putting it together for their business.
Session 11: Practice Session for presentations (optional)
This is an optional session for students to complete their flyer, elevator pitch and business model canvas and get feedback before the final presentations.
Session 12: Final Presentations and Awards
This session is for the student’s final presentation of their flyer, elevator pitch and business model canvas. You may want to have parents and family attend this session. It is also nice to have certificates or awards for them at this final session.
